I had a great experience with the interview I conducted with the high school counselor who made a positive impact in my life, Mr. Rios. Through our conver-sations, I gain more insight of his roles as a school counselor. What Mr. Rios shared with me in regards to his duties allowed me to have a better understanding if I could see myself in his position. Although I originally wanted to become an el-ementary school teacher, being in Mr. Rios’s office where students came into his office and would walk by just to say bye as they left school made me smile. At that moment, I was able to clearly see into my future and myself as a high school counselor.
To assess my own personal learning preference, I took the perceptual learning preference survey created by Kate Kinsella (1993). Upon taking the perceptual learning preferences survey, it became clear that many of the questions to which I responded “usually” were those that seemed to indicate preferences for reading and visual learning, or the ability to utilize all the senses while learning. I noticed indicating a dislike toward questions that seemed mostly auditory in nature. Toward the end of the survey, I assumed the results would favor either a visual or kinesthetic learning style, and guessed that auditory might be one of the lowest scoring preferences. I was correct; auditory learning scored lowest, with sixteen points.

I have wanted to pursue a career in the medical field since I was a child. In high school, this passion was put to the test after I suffered a bilateral hip injury that made mundane tasks like going up stairs, getting dressed, or even standing a painful and taxing ordeal. I was advised to quit all physical activity by my team of doctors, but as a three sport athlete for me that was not an option.
I want to be part of such a rewarding career. I feel that the subjects I have studied have provided me with a good foundation of skills and knowledge that I will use on a daily basis as Occupational therapist. In Biology I learned about the human body on a physical level. I found learning how the body works to be fascinating and I look forward to expanding my knowledge even more with this course.

Musical: an individual’s interpretation of tone and pitch including the understanding of rhythm and harmony. Introduction “Soft skills get little respect, but will make or break your career.” This popular quote from Peggy Klaus certainly gives an idea of the importance of these soft skills in one’s career. Also in Stephen Covey’s book ‘The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People’ he states that in his career spanning more than 25 years in business, university and other fields, he has come in contact with several individuals who have achieved pinnacles of outward success but somehow have found themselves struggling with an inner hunger which includes a need for personal development and developing a healthy as well as effective growing relationship with people, (Covey, 1989). Directly or indirectly he explained the importance of these skills. One may question what does actually mean by this term, well soft skills can be defined as personal characteristics that enable an individual to interact effectively and harmoniously with other individuals.
