For years and years, people have wondered if video games should be considered sports. Ever since the invention of video games, numerous adults and children have wondered this very same question. Video games being considered sports would change not only the time that people would put in to make a living, but it would also change the way marketing and companies would work. Video games should be considered sports because there are brand logos that can be advertised for companies, because gaming requires physical and mental action like sports, and last but not least, gaming has its own professional teams, and players to compete with and tournaments too compete in. In “The Brain Boosting Power of Video Games”, it is stated that for the past fifteen years numerous studies have been found that playing video games frequently changes various aspects of cognition for the better. It is a known fact that all sports at schools ar at the olympics require physical and mental action such as running, jumping, and thinking. This is the same with video games, practicing twelve hours a day, seven days a week thinking and planning on what you're going to do and how you're going to do the next thing can get very tiring. Physical exercise is not the only exercise that sports and video games have in common, the same goes for the mental side of things. Sports such as football or basketball spend hours just planning on how they are going to do the next thing and what strategies are going to be used. This much like almost all other aspects of sports, can be related to games. Quoted from Bryce Bates himself he states, “I have spent hours upon hours thinking and analyzing how I will play the next map”. This is the second reason as to why video games should be considered sports. Last but most certainly not least, video games should be considered sports because video games have professional teams, professional players, and professional tournaments just like sports.
