Mathematics is the science of numbers and space. For decades, humans have debated the importance of mathematics in regards to real life and society. Although mathematics is a common subject matter, there is a lack of cohesiveness regarding practices. Consequently, this lack of cohesiveness has effected math instruction. Math instruction includes the strategies, techniques and methods that are utilized to deliver the content of mathematics to students. A lot of focus has been placed on determining the proper methods and procedures in order to teach mathematics correctly. Consequently, all the attention has not resulted in a solution to this issue. Teachers use educational math research combined with personal teaching strategies to promote the delivery of math instruction. However, this practice has created tension in regards to the development of students in the area of mathematics. In this paper, we will discuss the various factors that can have an effect on math instruction. These factors include, anxiety in pre-service teachers, attitudes towards mathematics, teaching math with manipulatives, generalization with basic math facts, student success with differentiated learning, and we’ll review a teacher candidate program as it compares to math experts. Mathematics can be a difficult subject area for teachers to teach. In this study, researchers investigated early childhood, elementary pre-service teachers’ levels of mathematics anxiety. Also, the study examined whether pre-service teachers’ mathematics anxiety could be reduced after participating in a mathematics method course.
