Many kids in classes don’t support having to always read books the teacher assigns. I support having students being able to choose what books they would like to read in class. For example, it gives the students a voice. Additionally, it lets students choose books they enjoy more. Also, if the students have books they are interested in they will be more engaged in the classroom.

It can be thought that people already think the students are always involved in the class, and that they always enjoy what they are working on. Many people wonder, why would they get to choose what they do in the class when the teacher already has so much experience? On the contrary, the students in school don’t usually get to pick books for school or most of the things they do for that matter. …show more content…

For example, even though the book has to meet a certain standard, the books they pick could be more enjoyable for the class. If the students pick books that everyone likes reading, it will be more fun for the class. The students will have a better time reading if they enjoy the book. The teacher will also be happier, if the students are enjoying what they are reading. The teacher will be pleased that her kids actually enjoy what they are reading, and that the kids want to participate and read. This is only one important piece of evidence.

Another example,The students will also feel more engaged if they are reading books that interest them. Whenever students are reading topics that don’t interest them, they zone out and ignore them. This could result in harsh grades and less understanding of what they need to learn. That would not be good for either the student or the teacher. Also, students who have a book that they like, will feel more engaged and want to learn more about the topic.
