Chapter 11, “Social and Philosophical Perspectives,” talks about the different philosophical views individuals have that shapes the way they think, their beliefs, and determines their reactions to different circumstances in life. As future educators it’s important to understand your own philosophy, to better understand your own priorities, and rational for making decisions. It’s also important to understand that others may have their own philosophy that differs from your own. These are many important things to consider when going into the field of education, these thoughts and beliefs determine the way curriculum is thought and delivered. There are many different views on how and what should be taught.
A child’s education is affected by various elements such as gender, race, environment, economic factors, privilege, and more. These elements shape the outcome of a student’s educational experience and learning. They also determine what and how students will learn. In order to create an appropriate learning environment, there should be a sense of community. In other words, the common goal should be helping students succeed and reach their maximum potential.

When kids take time out of their own selfish days, they learn to manage their time wisely and be more responsible. Kids also learn how to prioritize and what hard work is.

My goal is for these students to witness first-hand how influential someone can be in their lives. I did not have an influential teacher in my life until I was in college and I attribute part of my dedication to education to this person. I was taught that education was something vital. I desired to be successful.
She expresses that effort is more important than talent. Every student learns in a different way and at a different rate than other students. Carol also states, “If we foster a growth mindset in our homes and schools, however, we will give our children the tools to succeed in their pursuits and to become responsible employees and citizens” (26). She suggests that teachers and parents encourage their students to become successful. They can do this by praising them for their effort and dedication.
Students need to respect one another, teachers need to respect the students, and students need to respect the teachers. Once that mutual respect is formed, misbehaviors will be decreased, and the learning can begin with more engagement and less distractions. As said by Nelson, Lott, and Glenn (2000), having a mutual respect in the classroom not only fosters a positive environment, but it also develops life skills. The central outcome that I want to foster in my students is a growth mindset. A growth mindset allows students to look at themselves and their abilities as constantly growing and improving and that they can achieve their goals if they put in the work.
Many students come and will continue to belong to worlds that are difficult to understand to anyone who is not from there. As a teacher, I can help these students to obtain an education that they can wear like badges, with pride and can show to the world. Education will teach determination, responsibility and dedication, which will ultimately lead students to achieve grand things for

As a child, I never understood education. I didn’t understand why we needed to go to school to learn; can’t our families teach us all they have learned over the years? In my younger years I hated school, I thought it was the worst, Over the years I have been a student, I have realized there are countless reasons we need to school for. After struggling in school, I tried to reach out to my parents for help, but there were numerous problems which they were unable to help me solve or figure out.
