As a child, I had always valued my education and loved learning. My father jokingly called me the brains of the family. I did not know how much of an impact these words would have on me. Attending a low-income school was challenging, though it sparked a desire for change in me. Throughout my life, my teachers were not advocates for my education. However, I continued to persevere because my education meant opportunity. In my community, it was not normal for students to attend college. College was the only option for me. Senior year approached, and I did not have a clear sense of which career I would choose, or which college I would attend. My father died that year and it heavily influenced my life in a positive manner. His encouragement showed that with the impact of one person, I could develop intellectually and impel change. I chose to attend Houston Baptist University where I now study writing. My passion for learning and education has since grown throughout my four years of undergraduate education.

My goal is for these students to witness first-hand how influential someone can be in their lives. I did not have an influential teacher in my life until I was in college and I attribute part of my dedication to education to this person. I was taught that education was something vital. I desired to be successful. If I did not have my parents' support, my outcome might have turned out very differently for me. My hope is that through this opportunity I will make a difference in the lives of these children and give them the education, support, and empowerment they deserve so that they will become
