There are a myriad of sciences practiced in today’s world, such as Biology, Astronomy, Earth Science, etc. I have always enjoyed science class through elementary school and even throughout high school and college. My present attitude towards science is overall positive and I enjoy learning new things about the world and asking questions. This subject has always been easy for me and I did not have to work as hard as I did compared to other subjects. Although, science in general is enjoyable for me, I do not enjoy physics and biology as much, but My first memories of science include archeology and astronomy. I would rate myself at a seven out of ten for students in fourth grade and under. I am most excited to teach astronomy, archeology, and botany to my students. This is because I feel most confident explaining why and how plants grow, compared to explaining static electricity. I believe my ability to effectively teach science greatly depended on how subjects were taught to me in school. For example, as a young child, my brother who was intrigued by several areas of science introduced me to astronomy and dinosaurs. Therefore, I observed someone else’s curiosity and most likely wanted to imitate my brother. My parents provided several experiences for me to further explore these areas of science. This also created a personal connection for me because I associate science with fun family experiences, such as trips, playing pretend, and hands-on activities. As I grew older, I had background knowledge and curiosity to learn more about these topics. Whereas, topics I was introduced to for the first time during school, I seemed to struggle with them more. I believe this is because I did not find the enthusiasm and personal connection as I did with subjects before school. This also relates to my poor experience in sixth grade when I did not feel comfortable to ask questions in class and I could not relate to levers and pulleys in a personal way.
