The teacher has a big decision to make regarding her class next year. Should they choose the books the students read or should the teacher let the students choose? I support the decision of letting the teacher decide the books the class will read next year for a number of reasons. The teacher would have an easier time choosing due to their prior knowledge of books. They would choose books that would increase reading ability and test scores. Finally we might be able to discover new books that we weren’t interested in before.
Although it would be an interesting choice for the students to choose, the teacher would have an easier time choosing the books due to their previous knowledge. As a student I have had experience with this topic before. I have been in a class where the teacher let us decide between two books, the students could not decide easily on the books without disagreement. The book that I voted on to read did not win so, as a result I was not as engaged. This could easily be avoided if the teacher chose. So, if they chose they would easily choose books from their learning experience. The majority of teachers, who are fully educated, have a broader perception of book than students who are still learning. …show more content…

As educators, a teacher's job is to help us learn and grow in our academic ability. So, in my opinion, I would trust the teacher to help me improve than my fellow peers. This implies that if the teacher chooses the books then we could make higher scores and have a higher reading ability. A teacher knows their classes’ capabilities and how they need to improve. Students may know what they need to learn, but not what everyone in their class does. Teachers can see from test grades and scores how her students are performing, so she knows what will enhance learning and reading
