The amount of money that is made yearly with fast food can really leave someone thinking. Fast food is the no. 1 health problem in the US, but some people don’t look at the good effects of it. Although some people think that junk food should be taxed for many valid reasons, others may think that it shouldn’t be taxed as well. Fast food shouldn’t be taxed because it already generates billions of dollars for the US Government; it presents job opportunities for anybody in need and it is a source for the homeless to get food. Fast food is not healthy, but we will discuss why it shouldn’t be taxed in the first place. Fast food already creates billions of dollars for the US Government. As said in the article “ Tax on junk food can pay diet-related diseases”. In this article, it states “In 1972 US consumers spent $3 billion a year on fast food; today we spend more than $110 billion.” This much money can be used for many things, if the food gets taxed the US government will make even less money because people would have to buy somewhere else, making even less money. In this article it is also mentioned that $35 billion dollars are spent per year on the diet industry. There is no need to tax if the people are taught how to eat. As mentioned before, some people think that junk food should be taxed for many valid reasons but others think that it shouldn’t be taxed as well for valid reasons as well. The three reasons that fast food should not be taxed were that it already generates billions of dollars for the US Government, it presents job opportunities for anybody in need and it is a source for the homeless to get food. Remeber, there is always someone out there that has it worst than us, like the homeles, would wewant to help them or make it worse by placing heavy
