The world of Architecture is constantly evolving. Numerous elements regulate this world, such as the climate, scientific advancement and economic conditions. Therefore, Architecture is determined by the desires of the citizens in their time. As renowned Architect Frank Gehry once said, “Architecture should speak of its time and place, but yearn for timelessness”. This aspect is one of the main problems the Architecture industry faces today. Structures are built to represent the current time, but not built to last for future generations. A personal goal of mine is to craft buildings that are not only up-to-date with current technologies, but will remain contemporary and practical for generations to come. Therefore, this would allow structures to be current with the sustainable technology boom in the present day. At the same time, enabling the buildings to be useful and aesthetically pleasing in the future. Moreover, given the opportunity to study this program, I look forward to working with Professor Miljana Horvat as she specializes in solar energy and sustainable design. Professor Horvat would be a fantastic resource to help guide me in the correct direction and achieve my future goals in sustainable design. Additionally, the “Sustainable Practices” course offered second semester would act as a valuable tool in the development of my ideas. Various factors influenced my decision to apply to this program. Apart from this program enabling me to achieve my future goals, I was persuaded by my time in the Mohawk College Architectural Technology program and during an internship.
