Franklin D. Roosevelt was born on January 30, 1882. The Roosevelts had been very wealthy their whole lives due to the fortune they made through real state and trade (millercenter.org). Franklin was the only child of James Roosevelt and Sara Ann Delano Roosevelt. Their family lived at Springwood. While growing up, Franklin Roosevelt was constantly being reminded about his importance and self-worth. He was educated by tutors and governesses until age 14, and the entire household revolved around him (biography.com). Roosevelt then studied law at Columbia University Law School and passed the bar exam in 1907. For the next few years, he practiced corporate law in New York living a very upper-class life style. Some of these including the Agricultural Adjustment Administration (AAA), the Public Works Administration (PWA), the Civilian Conservations Corps (CCC) and the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA). In addition to programs targeted for providing economic relief for workers and farmers and also creating jobs for the unemployed, Roosevelt initiated a reform of the financial system, in which Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) was created. The purpose of the FDIC was to protect depositors’ accounts. While the SEC was used to regulate the stock market and prevent any kind of abuses that were present in the 1929 crash (history.com). In 1935, after the economy had showed signs of recovery, Roosevelt asked Congress to pass a new set of reforms, which he referred to as the “Second New Deal.” These included the Social Security Act and the Works Progress Administration.
