Juliet
Juliet is a thirteen-year-old Capulet who falls in love with and marries Romeo, the son of her father’s worst enemy. She demonstrates the depths of her love by shutting out her long time nurse for turning against Romeo.

Friar Lawrence
Friar Lawrence, the Catholic holy man and friend who marries Romeo and Juliet in secret. He is an expert in mystical potions and herbs.

Montague, Romeo’s father and head of the Montagues is the enemy of the Capulets. He’s worried for Romeo’s happiness.

Lady Montague
Lady Montague, Romeo’s mother, dies of grief after Romeo is banished from Verona.

Paris
Paris, relative of the Prince, is who the Capulets have chosen to be Juliet’s husband.
Benvolio
Benvolio, Romeo’s cousin and friend, tries to keep the peace in public. He also tries to get Romeo’s mind off Rosaline even after he fell in love with Juliet.

Prince Escalus, Prince of Verona, has political power and will maintain public peace no matter what. He is related to both Mercutio and Paris.
