As an aspiring administrator, what might be some of your thoughts on skills, strategies and approaches and effective leader would use to create a culture and system in which all adults worked collaboratively to ensure all students are learning at high levels and graduate college and career ready? My thoughts as an aspiring administrator are that an effective leader must express a cohesive, clear vision for teaching and learning that aligns all aspects of school-curriculum, instruction, assessment, culture and character. An effective leader must also build support for on-going success, they need advocates for improved program outcomes inside and outside the immediate organization—constituents who understand the mission of the school, who share their vision and passion for student success, and who have a personal stake in the performance of the school and its students. Effective school leaders unite their staff and broader communities around an inspirational vision of student success. The school's vision combines academic scholarship with active citizenship for a better world. This vision transforms schools into purposeful places of learning where both students and teachers are fully engaged, working together toward a common vision.
