The book of Genesis was written sometime between 1450 and 1410 BC in the Middle East and with the author Moses leader of the Israelites leading the nation of Israel. The book of Genesis is described as a book of beginnings, beginnings are important and thankfully God continually gives us opportunities for a fresh start and to finish well. Beginnings stir faith and create the possibility of a new tomorrow. They remind us of God’s unfolding plan and His unquenchable love. We read stories of people who were giving opportunities. These key people from the book of Genesis are Adam, Eve, Noah, Rebekah, Jacob, and Joseph. God began a people whose descendants are living in ethnic purity to this very day. Beginnings stir up faith, confidence, and possibility of a brand new tomorrow. They remind us of God’s unfolding plan and His unquenchable love. The book of Genesis has two main divisions: The first part describes the creation of the universe and other beginnings as well as humanity’s fall into sin and the start of God’s rescue mission to redeem fallen humanity. Genesis remind us of the person and nature of God and value and dignity of human beings. It tells what happens in regard to creation, sin, judgment, languages, races, and marriage. The second part contains Genesis’s main story, centering on God’s call to Abram (later Abraham) and Sarai (later Sarah) from the country of Ur, a land of Idol worshipers in the Middle East. God plan is to bless all of humanity through Abraham’ descendants. The new nation that Abraham would father would be God’s tool for blessing all peoples.
