General George S. Patton was a very competitive man who worked hard to become the fearless military general that he was. Patton was a renowned person and general. Some people love him. Some people hate him. Most of everyone had a great amount of respect for him. George Patton was born in the year of 1885. He was born in San Gabriel, California. His family was originally from Virgina.

He came from a prestigious line of military leaders and soldiers. They go all the way back to the Civil War. His great grandfather died while fighting for the Confederacy. His great uncle also died while fighting for the Confederacy. He had a wealthy family. He decided when he was young that he wanted to continue the tradition of serving his country. Patton was fighting in the battle of Meuse Argonne. While fighting a great fight, George S. Patton was badly wounded. George S. Patton was hit by machine gun fire. Patton was shot in the leg. He layed in a shell hole for hours before it was even safe to evacuate him.

When it was safe for George S. Patton to be evacuated from the fight, he refused to be taken to the hospital until he was able to report to his commander.General George S. Patton was temporarily promoted to colonel. George S. Patton was also awarded the Distinguished Service Cross for bravery under fire.

In 1932, George S. Patton graduated with distinction from the Army War College. During the war George S. Patton stayed positive and a great leader. In 1938 George S. Patton was promoted to colonel. In 1940 George S. Patton was promoted to brigadier general. On April 4, 1941 George S. Patton was promoted to temporary major general. One whole week after his promotion he was made commander of the second Armored Division.

On December 7, 1941 the Japanese decided to attack Pearl Harbor. After that George S. Patton organized the Desert Training Center near Indio, California. The purpose for this was so George S. The pocket would have two German forces trapped with nowhere to go. The pocket that was formed was in Falaise. General George S. Patton badly wanted to completely circle the two German forces, but General Omar Bradley didn’t want to. General Omar Bradley was scared that if they were to completely circle around the Germans then General George S. Patton’s flanks would be weak and could lead to a counterattack. On August 20, the pocket from Falaise to Argentan was finally closed, 20,000 to 40,000 Germans were able to escape.

General George S. Patton and his Third Army was approaching the German border when they were getting low on supplies. This made the advance slow down because without supplies the army could not sustain themselves. General George S. Patton continued even though he was short on supplies. General George S. Patton and his Third Army were finally stopped when they met strong German defences. The German defences were at Nancy and Metz in November.

In December of 1944 the Germans attempted a counterattack. The counterattack was massive. The attack took place in the Ardennes Forest. The plan was to circle the United States 101 Airborne Division. The Airborne Division was in Bastogne, Belgium
