Teacher technology support within the XYZ school district is essential to integrate available technology tools into the curriculum effectively (Helms, 2014). While this school district is making considerable progress in incorporating technological resources within the curriculum effectively, a need exists for further development in leveraging technology within the curriculum (GaDOE, 2008). Technology is constantly evolving, especially in the education realm. One of the devices that are starting to be widely used in the classroom is an iPad or tablet. In the article “ELL to Go” by Jennifer Demski, the article covers how the use of devices in the classroom and outside of the classroom boosts ELL’s learning. Being and ELL endorsement I found this article very intriguing and helpful when planning for the future.

She discussed the benefits of technology that include, making learning fun with its inclusive methods, Fingeroot believes technology can improve the quality of education nationwide, and provides a very interactive and personal way for students to learn. She states that Kecia Ray, executive director of Metro schools’ learning technology department and president-elect of International Society for Technology in Education, has the goal of presenting a plan that provides technological access to more students. Keep the Books! In this day in age, it is not surprising to see a child holding an iPhone or tablet while their parent aimlessly searches grocery aisles. Technology of all sorts has become a large, inescapable part in our lives. Since the internet has emerged into our world, the way we look at things, the way we communicate, the way we think and learn, has evolved.
As technology is constantly adapting and changing as teachers it is essential to keep up to date with technology as it is a huge part of teaching in the 21st century. Continued professional development and professional conversations with other senior teacher will help me grow as a teacher; to apply this professional learning to help build on children’s achievement and their classroom learning. From the modernization of E-rate to the proliferation and adoption of openly licensed educational resources, the key pieces necessary to realize best the transformations made possible by technology in education are in place. Educators, policymakers, administrators, and teacher preparation and professional development programs now should embed these tools and resources into their practices. Working in collaboration with families, researchers, cultural institutions, and all other stakeholders, these groups can eliminate inefficiencies, reach beyond the walls of traditional classrooms, and form strong partnerships to support everywhere, all-the-time learning. Although the presence of technology does not ensure equity and accessibility in learning, it has the power to lower barriers to both in ways previously impossible.

We are a district that utilizes technology extensively. In very few districts could you walk into every classroom and see a smart board. In our county you will. Reflection: I agree that some there are quality teachers who lack technological proficiency.
If the students or teacher in a classroom are inexperienced with technology, the class will spend more time struggling with getting technology to work than actually learning. It is not uncommon for teachers to have a classroom filled with student with all different levels of technology skills. This can cause valuable time to be wasted trying to get everyone on the same page. As said in an article by Julia Klaus, “Technology should be used to supplement the classroom curriculum, but should not be used as the sole source of learning”

The One laptop per child initiative has provided many laptops to various countries across the world, and has recorded statistics for each country it has provided to. Some examples include; Cameroon (1,600 devices), Rwanda (110,000 devices) and Brazil (2,600 devices) – as shown on this interactive map; http://one.laptop.org/map, which shows to me that this initiative has already shown its potential, and that when it is more widely used by countries across the world that it can bridge the gap caused by Economy to the greatest extent. Furthermore, as more technology is developed over time, it will become more cost effective to provide these children with more powerful devices allowing for the use of more sophisticated software, allowing them to push the boundaries of what they can learn and show off, and with more funding in the future, the One laptop per child initiative will be able to cover more areas with devices and allow more schoolchildren to share in the experiences of those already using these devices to broaden the scope
Allowing students to use devices such as iPads instead of carrying textbooks around will help save money and create new teaching skills
iPad. Schools could also consider getting rid of old computer labs, which could save electricity and space. The rooms that were once used for the computer labs, can now be used for new classrooms. The iPad can also help kids interact with others and it can make learning more fun for those who normally do not enjoy school. The iPad gives students the chance to be creative and reach their full potential in their education.
In the classroom, technology can encompass all kinds of tools from low-tech pencil, paper, and chalkboard, to the use of presentation software, or high-tech tablets, online collaboration and conferencing tools, and more. The newest technologies allow us to try things in physical and virtual classrooms that were not possible before. Today, I cannot imagine how difficult it is to teach without technology and how hard it is to learn without it. Technology plays a major part in our lives as students.
