Technology is constantly evolving, especially in the education realm. One of the devices that are starting to be widely used in the classroom is an iPad or tablet. In the article “ELL to Go” by Jennifer Demski, the article covers how the use of devices in the classroom and outside of the classroom boosts ELL’s learning. Being and ELL endorsement I found this article very intriguing and helpful when planning for the future.

From the modernization of E-rate to the proliferation and adoption of openly licensed educational resources, the key pieces necessary to realize best the transformations made possible by technology in education are in place. Educators, policymakers, administrators, and teacher preparation and professional development programs now should embed these tools and resources into their practices. Working in collaboration with families, researchers, cultural institutions, and all other stakeholders, these groups can eliminate inefficiencies, reach beyond the walls of traditional classrooms, and form strong partnerships to support everywhere, all-the-time learning. The One laptop per child initiative has provided many laptops to various countries across the world, and has recorded statistics for each country it has provided to. Some examples include; Cameroon (1,600 devices), Rwanda (110,000 devices) and Brazil (2,600 devices) – as shown on this interactive map; http://one.laptop.org/map, which shows to me that this initiative has already shown its potential, and that when it is more widely used by countries across the world that it can bridge the gap caused by Economy to the greatest extent. Furthermore, as more technology is developed over time, it will become more cost effective to provide these children with more powerful devices allowing for the use of more sophisticated software, allowing them to push the boundaries of what they can learn and show off, and with more funding in the future, the One laptop per child initiative will be able to cover more areas with devices and allow more schoolchildren to share in the experiences of those already using these devices to broaden the scope
Allowing students to use devices such as iPads instead of carrying textbooks around will help save money and create new teaching skills
Shifting from using Technology to Leading with the use of Technology I started teaching in 2011, and was full of enthusiasm for using technology in my classroom. I slowly began to realize that using technology as a tool was not yielding success for my students. Yes my students had fun, but were not collaborating with others, or working towards a common goal. After following leaders in technology on Twitter, seeing the movement of flipped learning in school, and talking to others who had gone through the Master’s of Art in Educational Technology (MAET) at Michigan State University; I began to get excited to learn more about teaching with the tool of technology in my classroom and furthering my career and my students. After entering the program,
I want my future students to be able to work with the new technology or at least show them what it is like in the classroom. I know some schools now are allowing students to have tablets or iPads, which is good but I know other schools can’t afford it. So in cases like that, I would use what I had in the classroom or in the library. I think this works best because this allows all students to have an equal level with their peers because some children may already have a computer at home, while others can only use them at school.
Teaching with technology causes a reduction rate in the time it takes for them to reach a learning objective by thirty to eighty percent (National Training and Simulation Association). When surveyed by the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) on the use of technology in the classroom, seventy-seven percent of teachers agreed that tablets increased student motivation to learn while eighty-one percent of K-12 teachers found that tablets enrich classroom education.
