Glam Metal and Thrash Metal are both music genre that gave influence on each other. But, the agreement now is which genre gave the most important influence on each other or which one was more important in the 1980s. When you hear the term “Glam Metal” the first thing that should pop to your head are these following bands, New York Dolls, Aerosmith, KISS, Van Halen and lastly, Motley Crue, who was the first glam band to be signed to a record deal (Glam Metal). These bands were categorizing has glam because they were influenced to wear more dramatic hair, clothing and hair. KISS is the best example of Glam, at all performances, the band would wear over the top facial make up, leather clothing and wedge shoes. The bands real identity was kept a secret for some years because of theses dramatic styles. In the 1970s the basic traits of heavy metal included, the harding of blues, power chords, extreme distortion of harmony and notes, aggression, heavy instrumentals, extended solos, and themes of violence. Their song, “Master of Puppets” provides power chords, aggression in the vocals and lyrics, heavy instrumentals and extreme distortion. An example of aggression in the vocals and lyrics would be, “Lending on your deaths construction, taste me you will see, more is all you need, you’re dedicated to how I’m killing you”, pretty drastic. In the 1980s, heavy metal changed their views on music, they wanted to make their music catchier, with a sophisticated techniques and sound. This song does feature the sophisticated techniques and sound, however, I personally don’t believe the song is catchy.
