Graduate Level Expectations
The primary purpose of the University of Phoenix College of Education graduate program is to prepare future and current educators to be effective, inspiring, and influential teachers. High-quality graduate education demands commitment by the faculty and graduate students. This requires effective communication skills, collaboration, and perseverance from the faculty and graduate students in the College of Education graduate program.
Communication and Writing Effective communication skills are crucial to my success in the graduate program. As teachers, our main purpose is to communicate effectively the knowledge we have to the students we are teaching. If we are not effective communicators, then students will know gain the knowledge necessary to progress through their education. Graduate level writing differs from other forms of writing because instead of writing for a specific course requirement you are participating in the broader discussion among professional peers about important topics in education and teaching ("The Writing Center", 2007). Writing at a graduate level will involve a significant amount of practice. To successfully write at a graduate level I will utilize all the tools the University of Phoenix offers. Shellenbarger (2009) believes that by tracking how one spends their time the student can gauge energy, productivity, alertness, and effectiveness throughout the day. I will log my activities; therefore, I will be able to review the log and identify behavioral patterns and how time is spent. By analyzing these records, I will be able to determine efficient times and performance. I will recognize how to prioritize activities and manage time wisely. By being organized and putting a priority on tasks, I cut down on the amount of stress because of poor time
