Welcome classmates and their friends and family. Today we have all gathered here to celebrate the graduation of the 8th-grade students of Union Heights School. After many trials and hardships, we have finally been able to advance past our middle school years to our new high school lives.

We all owe us being here to at least one person, and for me those people are my teachers, Mrs. Peggy, Mrs. Denney, and Mrs. Woodard, Mrs. Doolittle, Mrs. Corrinne, Mrs. McCall, Mrs., Hassel, Mrs. Ashley, the Principal Mrs. Kittrel, and most of all my friends and family who have supported me through this journey. What I wish to convey to you all is just some help for what will chase us all in the near future. One simple piece of advice to help us all is to be at school. You might now be thinking “Well that’s pretty obvious,” but I do not just mean for you to be there physically, what I am really emphasizing is for your head to be there. We have to sit through more lectures and learn countless things to inevitably be prepared to handle the world on our own. Let us face it guys, we are growing up. While that thought may excite some of you with the promise of cars, your own homes, and freedom, I would prefer to stay a kid. Be able to come home and just play video games and only have to worry about some chores and homework, but as adults, we have much more on our plates. I can guarantee that most of the adults present here would love to be a kid again if only temporary, but in today’s society, we cannot afford to stay a kid forever. That is precisely why we have schools, to prepare us for the challenges we will have to face one day. I will not sugarcoat it, there just is not a way to escape our fate. That is we have to prepare, that is we need to work our butts off in order to make that inevitable truth as easy to handle as possible.
