Mighty empires have forever risen and eventually met their match. Their are those who leave without contribution, but there are a remarkable amount that have shaped our world today. Among these civilizations that left an impact are the Greek and Aztec empires; each from largely different time periods. While both civilizations left astonishing changes to the world, the developments made by Greek thinkers outdue those of the Aztecs when evaluating their creation of a prosperous government, understanding of literature, and enlightened ideas. Ancient Greece civilization also surpasses Aztec empires with art development and scientific findings. Approximately 2,500 year ago, Greece began to develop agricultural based city-states. These city-states, also known as poleises, was an influential cause for the extreme effects Greece made on society. Each city-state became independent, managing their own economy, government, and all around way of life. They truly were little states with one dominating religion and language. By 700 B.C., the city-states had declared a form of government and defined citizens from non-citizens’ roles within politics. The most popular form of government throughout Greece was an oligarchy; a limited group of wealthy aristocrats. This form of government gave nobles most of the say in government while lower classes had no rights. Consequently, tensions rose between upper and lower classes. An increase in trade led to increased wealth for other classes below nobles. As they established more power, these lower classes decided to take over the oligarchies and create a new form of government. These revolts resulted in tyrannies to take over politics. Countless tyrannies proved to be a step up from the previous conditions with rulers wanting to make a change for the better.
