Working in a group can sometimes be difficult if the group does not have the right people. In chapter 9, figure 9.2 lists the stages of the group development model. Chapter 2 discusses diversity and the benefits of diversity. The objective of the group is to generate better ideas. If a group has the right individuals with the right knowledge, skills, and abilities, the group will succeed in all stages of the group development model. The first stage of developing a group is forming. Forming is defined as pulling people together that have different knowledge, skills, and ability. Storming is the stage where goals and objectives are set. We began with meeting between classes for fifteen minutes to speed up the process of our work. Casey suggested we present Chapter 8 Communication, and Chapter 5 Motivation. Of course, everyone in the group liked the idea but needed to figure out how we were going to present those two topics. I began with telling them that other groups in the past had presented with Jeopardy and other fun games. Everyone agreed to the Jeopardy game. Casey created a Google document so that everyone could post possible Jeopardy questions or any other suggestions. We were able to meet at Starbucks to continue to go more in depth with our PowerPoint that Matt had created. Performing is completing the groups’ goal. We rehearsed before actually presenting in front of the class. Our group had high group cohesion and high task commitment. We were able to work together and were committed to all the hard work put into the presentation. High group cohesion and high task commitment leads to high performance and collective efficacy. Collective efficacy is defined as “a group’s perception of its ability to successfully perform well” (page 212). Our group was able to perform well.
