So, the main persons of interest will be the moms. Taking that into consideration that babies and little children are present, I might plan ahead to have a room with someone to watch or babysit the children while I speak to the moms. Since it has been determined that the meeting will take place in one of the member’s home, I would suggest to the moms for the tots to go into another room and have this room set up with a few toys to occupy them. While the tots are being attended to, this would provide some time for the moms to give their attention to my speech.
Most importantly, any student under the age of 18 must have parental consent. Sending documentation home to parents is an excellent way to include a brief description of the purpose of the group and the importance of confidentiality in group
Good afternoon, I know you are struggling this year with the group of 8th grade kids. We had our first PBIS meeting yesterday and the 8th grade class come up for discussion. At first, we were thinking it was the whole class but through discussions it was decided that there are about 10-12 kids who are the leaders in making not so good choices. The team and I would like to put something in place for these kids to help this year either by implementing some kind of CICO or possibly a socials skills group for these top kids.
I model appropriate behaviors, establish routines and simple rules in the classroom, speak positively with the children, understand that children may not be ready to share, and they need to explore and experiment with control and saying ‘no’. I realize that all children may show challenging behaviors – they are learning to control their bodies, and to control their emotions. I feel the most important aspect of positive guidance for challenging behavior is to build strong relationships with the children. These relationships allow me to know exactly what each child needs in terms of developing their social, emotional, and problem-solving skills, their self-regulation, and their
Professor and Class this chapter presented bring up some of the same questions I ask myself when thinking about group counseling and leading group. Currently working in the mental health and substance abuse field I come across clients who are resistance and often times are mandated to participate in group. Therefore as a beginning group leader how to deal with members who are involuntary will be a challenge as a new group counselors and my fear of not having the specific skills needed to deal with this type of population. An article on the challenges leaders face with involuntary clients participating in group therapy suggested some characteristic group leaders should posses like being dynamic, energetic patient, flexible and having thick
Many times, younger kids are afraid or nervous to ask questions or concerns they have to adults, however, when interacting with another kid who had specifically gone through a similar situation, they would open up and their problems
The best way to highlight the successes of this classroom-style technique is to first go into depth about the stresses parents in this situation experience. From this point, the dialogue is moves to discussing
It was suggested that I break my large group students in to two smaller large groups since several of my students have difficultly interacting together on the carpet. Their competing nature and constant auguring of some students disrupts the learning of other children. I feel it’s also important for me to model how the children can voice their opinions without yelling at each other or me. For example using smaller voice to gain their attention. Adding a kindness tree to our room, labeling emotions, providing verbal and visual prompts to support their self-regulation and group cooperation.
5. Throughout this assignment our group displayed many different types of leadership styles and approaches. The most members of our group each took a different type of leadership and they used it to make our group work better to get the task completed. Myles used the authentic style of leadership; Anya affectively applied situational leadership to the project; Timothy utilized team leadership; Izy used the trait approach to leadership; and Tyler applied servant leadership.
The past experience in leadership tells me that there is no short cut or formula to take you to a top leadership position, but there exist a scope for some principles in leadership that everyone requires to learn if they want to assume leadership positions in the organizations. People who become leaders observe their peers for small successes and copy their styles in their own leadership styles. These people locate mentors who have been in those positions earlier and participate in leadership development programs and go through literature which tell them more on the subject of leadership. Another very important weakness that I found in the leadership experience in the past has been that I have been spending more time in the business rather than on business. I need to have measured these activities
A classroom with vibrant teachers, motivated students, and a genuinely engaging environment is the stepping stone for innovation. The classroom is where a student is meant to develop their curiosity about the world, as well as their willingness to make a change; it is where the youngest of our society are meant to acquire the knowledge that will be the basis for their future career paths and general competency as citizens of the world. Considering the shortcoming of the Georgian public school system, such as the memorization-based nature of the curriculum, the inadequate textbooks, and underenforced educational training, education is where I would fight for reforms. If I were given the opportunity to hold a leadership position and help my country, my position would be in the ministry of education where I would fight for the aforementioned reforms.
As much as teamwork is important and has been noted to be one of the vital roles and keys to the success of great and successful companies, team members in the team must perform their roles and responsibilities in order to achieve uncommon results.
