When Haley, saw the word list she look terrified. I went with my guts feeling about choosing Grade level 1 words, I wanted her to get comfortable and motivated that she can do it. I also told her that she was helping me out. For Grade 1, she had 15 correct words and 5 wrong. Haley at first started really strong and hesitated a couple of times. Her score was Instructional/Frustration. I also assess her on Grade 2. Where she did really good. Haley got seventeen correct and three incorrect. Haley, score at Instructional level. I decided I would keep going and test her on Grade 3. At the beginning she was really trying her best. I notice that she was having a hard sounding out words that ended in “ck”, “ch”, “sh “and “th”. Haley scored frustration on Grade 3. I asked her if we can try one more, which was Grade 4. Haley got the first three words wrong and I stopped the test. Analysis of Reading Passage I gave Haley Grade 2 for the reading passage, I felt like this would keep her interest since she was going to be reading about animals. Haley did a great job reading this passage, at first she was hesitated and scare to read to me. I kept on telling her she was doing a great job and to keep on reading. In this story, Haley had only 2 miscues which were one omission and one substitution. Haley scored Independent / Instructional. On the comprehension Questions, she did a really good job. Haley scored Independent level. The rubric indicated that student can recall key ideas which she did and remember important facts. In Grade 3, Haley had in total five miscues.
