Ashley, I agree with you that excellent communication skills are vital for the health informatician. As you pointed out, the health informatician needs to be able to effectively communicate with many different people all of whom have varying degrees of comfort with technology. Adams, Blandford, Budd, and Bailey (2005) clarify the difficulties of communicating in a clinical setting, especially noting the limited time users have to access necessary information. In their study, Adams, et al. (2005) a new and effective communication channel was discovered – screensaver messages. These messages were visible to both users and non-users of the computer. This channel proved successful in communicating information to a large number of employees.
