Heidi’s Values in Hitler’s Daughter By Mrithika Raja 8Z Facing challenges and not giving up is a big part of building someone's character. The daughter of Hitler – Heidi – is portrayed by Jackie French in Hitler’s Daughter. Three children – Anna, Mark, and Little Tracey – create an imaginary story about Heidi. Heidi was born with a red birthmark on her face and one leg shorter than the other. Heidi shows the values of perseverance, compassion, and courage continuously throughout the novel. Heidi does not give up even when she has deformities when she plans to help the Jews, and when she must flee her country. One of the main characteristics of Heidi is courage. She shows this by getting through life even though she has deformities, like the red birthmark on her face and how one leg is shorter than the other. In the book, it mentions "he brought her dolls with long blonde hair that made her cry secretly at night because they were beautiful, and she was not." Unfortunately, this explains that Heidi's flaws have created a consequential wound in Heidi, who spent her whole childhood feeling like she was mediocre. This is especially affected as Heidi does not get ample care from others because of her appearance. She also creates an understanding of compassion in the novel. It is crucial because it illustrates how Heidi is diligent and caring throughout the novel, by showing compassion by making homes for Jews. Heidi is inadequate for action because of her hidden identity, but she tries to help completely. Mark says in the novel, “So, she did try to help them' (Page 98). Her identity and appearance leave her unable to make a larger impact through her plan to help the Jews. Heidi exhibits immense value in never giving up by planning to help the
