Autism is a disease that the world is still attempting to understand and properly diagnose. According to WebMD autism had been identified as far back as the early 1900’s. Autism has once been thought to have been a mental disease, or as a result of bad parenting. This disease has been categorized as having one or two of symptoms or a large variety of them.
The largest advocacy group for the intellectually disabled, the Association for Retarded Citzens,is now simply ARC (Fairman). The term mental retardation is being replaced with intellectual disability by The Center for Disease Control and Prevention because this word has become so taboo. People have managed to turn innocent words into hateful speech so much so that professional establishments and groups will no longer use those words because they are deemed as a negative term. Even if someone disagrees with Fairman’s argument about not banning certain words, his paper and his assumptions are acceptable because people have heard for themselves just how these words are being used
It has become common today that many Americans have given up on children who have autism. Teachers have even claimed that some kids with autism would never be able to speak, and read. Teachers, and schools for many years have placed autistic children in special-ed classes, and have considered them retarded. For years the parents of these children have been swept of there hope to find a way of giving their child what we consider a normal life. Kristine Barnett has found a way of giving these parents that hope they once lost.

The portrayal of the movie Rain Man lead to the stereotype that boys with autism are better at numeracy than literacy. In the movie, “Rain Man,” the main character, Raymond, is an autistic man who can quickly calculate complicated mathematical problems in his head with accuracy. This is an exaggerated stereotype that leads to the belief that all boys with autism have some sort of special talent. Jesus is on the spectrum and is no genius. He is in high school and does not know how to spell his own name.
Discrimination is rooted in a multitude of ideas, primarily those of culture and such things, which would bring about racist and sexist discrimination. It should seem obvious that the weak are inherently separated from the strong, for their ability and their power. This is where discrimination against the differently abled is factored
“The doctor of the future will no longer treat the human frame with drugs, but rather will cure and prevent disease with nutrition.” Thomas Edison By analyzing blood samples, it has been found that children with autism have immune abnormalities due to low levels of antibodies (immunoglobulin). Antibodies are made in the body in response to infections such as bacteria, viruses, fungus, or cancer cells. Antibodies attach themselves to these invasive substances enabling the body’s immune system to destroy them.

Schools and some universities use generalized IQ testing to determine placement of any given student. Teachers may assume that this will help students to recognize their level of potential within the university or school. Instructors might generalize students with low IQ scores with those students who are truly incompetent. Howard Gardner himself, almost twenty years ago, has conducted a number of studies and researched in his work “A Rounded Version: The Theory of Multiple Intelligences” (1999) that IQ tests do not measure our intellect accurately enough. His work can point out the fact that there are seven kinds of intellect and IQ is a measurement of only two of them.

This does not mean, however, that nothing can be done to help a person who is on the autism. Because autism is a condition it affects different people in different ways. It is therefore very difficult to generalise about how an autistic person will develop over time. For example, Two people with the same diagnosis can have a very different profile of needs and skills.
Scientist have discovered there are many different things that can affect a person causing them to become autistic, that you will learn about later on in this paper. “When enough people care about autism or diabetes or global warming, it helps everyone, even if only a tiny fraction
Therapy Dogs as an Emerging Alternative of Support for Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder Abstract Many areas of functioning are impaired in the Autistic Spectrum Disorder among children. One such area is Social Interaction (SI), (O’Haire, 2013). There is a marked difference in SI among autistic children, with reduced communication, lack of emotional expression (verbal and nonverbal) and a difficulty in developing and maintaining relationships and processing facial expressions. It has been seen that interactions with service or therapy dogs has been linked with an increase in social skills and behaviour, (Carlisle, (2015). It has also been proven that just the presence of a therapy dog has better effects on an autistic child than a peer or family member, (Obrusnikova, 2011).
