The 2016 presidential election has stirred a national debate surrounding the top two candidates, Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton. With their undeniable differences in approach to key topics, such as immigration, abortion, and gun control, both front runners must showcase their solutions with great knowledge and enthusiasm. The trepidation behind the nation’s choosing the next president highlights the need for each candidate’s approaches to be thoroughly considered and weighed. Her approach calls for private gun sellers to be required to run background checks. Also, Clinton’s tactic would allow victims of gun violence to sue firearm manufacturers. She claims Republicans put the National Rifle Association (NRA) ahead of American families in regards to gun violence (Alba, 2015). Clinton will call for bans on assault guns and high capacity magazines. While strict background checks are very necessary to keep guns out of the hands of the mentally ill, holding gun manufacturers liable for crimes committed with a gun is absurd. This would be equivalent to holding automobile manufacturers liable for crimes committed with a vehicle, such as vehicular manslaughter. Trump respects the rights of an unborn child, not just the rights of those who set out to terminate a living person.
