Mission Statement
A mission statement is defined as a “concise statement of a company 's reason for being, what it actually does, and for whom. A mission statement answers the questions, "What do you do?" and "What is your raison d 'être (reason for being)?" (Abraham, 2012) The reason or purpose of a mission statement is a written expression of purpose. It’s the overall reason an organization exists. Having a clear mission statement that is well disseminated within an organization facilitates strategic planning and setting priorities based on the needs of current and potential clients.

A vision statement is “a concise expression of where the organization would like to see itself in the next 5 or 10 years.” (Abraham, 2012) However, mission of Nike does mostly recognize the business we are in, specifically the sports and fitness industry. But it is not exact as to what products and services are provided. Their mission statement also fails mention any supply channels and customers, instead it portrays management’s beliefs and values of their aspiration to be number one and to maintain that position in the sports and fitness industry.
