George Bernard Shaw once said, “Life isn't about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself.” Everyone is the way he or she is for a number of reasons. Sometimes things that happen in someone’s personal life majorly influences them; other times world events have a lasting impact on a person. Many things may influence a life, but in my case, the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, an ongoing recession, and the legality of same-sex marriage have taken a great impact on me, my life, and my views.

President George W. Bush did not waste much time at all waging a war on these horrible people who had killed so many US citizens on our own soil. While I did not even fathom understanding what this meant, everyone around me seemed to be pleased with the decision our president had made. Thousands of men from the US military have lost their lives fighting so that this country could remain safe from more attacks like these in the years since. As a result of the War on Terrorism that President Bush waged in 2001, the United States currently still has men in the Iraq and Afghanistan fighting fourteen years after the attacks. Not only did this terrorism attack affect our military, it also made air travel much more difficult and strict. Not only do travelers have to limit how much of a product can be carried in their carry-on luggage since the September eleventh attacks, they also have to remove shoes, belts, and other attire when passing through the checkpoints before boarding an airplane. This is completely understandable after what happened but only complicates the entire situation. With the extra cost of security, many airlines went under following the attacks. The
