1962 prison escape included three men. These three men helped each other to make many things possible. They attempted to escape Alcatraz. Even though it was a maximum security prison, they still wanted to try it. They definitely got famous from it but was it worth it.
Alcatraz Island was for the worst criminals. It was a maximum security prison; they said it was impossible to escape. Since the island is surrounded by water it makes it even harder to escape, let alone the fact that there tons of guards. Before the prison, it was a fort for the military. In the text, it states,”Before the prison, the island was meant to be a fort, declared a military reservation in 1850 by President Millard Fillmore. In 1859 (two years before the Civil War began), troops moved in to defend the Bay Area. In 1907, Alcatraz became an official U.S. military prison and remained one until 1933, when the facility transferred to the Bureau of Prisons.” The guards and officers actually lived on the island with there family. In the years after the prison closed, it became a national historic landmark.

The 1962 Alcatraz escape attempt. John and Clarence Allen, along with Frank Morris worked together to try to escape Alcatraz. The escape plan took several months to design. They made clay heads to put in the bed to trick the guards. They took hair from the barber and used paint. They made tunnels in there cell that they covered up with a piece of painted cardboard.
