Bradbury uses similes and metaphors to compare the characters thoughts of the sun to widely known objects, such as, a lemon and a coin. There are many other uses of author's craft in this story. Bradbury focuses deeply on simile to show how the children are longing for freedom. One example of how Bradbury uses simile to show the children’s desire for freedom is when the children are huddled in front of the window to look for the sun. “The children pressed to each other like so many roses, so many weeds, intermixed, peering out for a look at the hidden sun.”
