How can jealousy affect people? Ray Bradbury, who was the author of “All Summer in a Day” was an American author and screenwriter. He worked in a variety of genres, including fantasy, science fiction, and horror. In this story people were living on venues where the sun would come out every seven years, and last for just one hour. Margot a character in the story who is 9 years old. She stood apart from the children who looked out the window, dreaming when the sun would come out. Margot wasn’t born on Venus she was from planet Earth. She and her family came to Venus when she was 5 years old, she had remembered what the sun looked like and remembers how it like a penny. (Bradbury, 1954) The author addresses this because the children on the planet of Venus was aware of Margot’s experiences and differences. This is significant because it shows that Margot wasn’t from Venus and that she was from the earth. Another way the author displays, the theme of jealousy is when the children bully her because of her poem. Bradbury writes “ aw you didn’t write that” protested one of the boys. The author compose this because the children didn’t believe that “the sun is a flower, that blooms for just one hour”.
