Of Mice and Men: Friendship Friendship is something everyone should experience. The novel, Of Mice and Men, is about a pair of friends, Lennie and George, who go to work on a new ranch after being chased out of the last town. The unlikely pair of friends have been together since the beginning, and Lennie's aunt even told George to look after Lennie after she dies. Lennie, a giant teddy bear, and George, a rock solid wall, share a gigantic dream of owning land for such a small lifestyle. Lennie ends up getting into a huge mess in the new town and George has to make the courageous and upsetting move of killing Lennie in a peaceful way instead of letting him get murdered. George and Lennie's friendship is extraordinary because “aint many guys travel around together,” (_ ). Two friends traveling together is something not usually seen seen with ranch workers. Friendship is a foreign concept to them making it an extraordinary thing. Also, friendship is a special thing when shared. George and Lennie share something special because ranch workers usually “never seem to give a damn about nobody.” (39). George and Lennie stick together and care about each other which is unusual for ranchmen to do. They usually keep to themselves and stay alone, this makes friendship something special.
