Would you rather be parented like Romeo and Juliet or like an American child today? Romeo and Juliet is about two households who do not get along with each other, but then Romeo and Juliet meet and they fall in love they cannot be together so they take their own lives. Parenting styles have changed a lot over the past four hundred years. In the time of Romeo and Juliet, parents allowed more freedoms, spent less time with their children and orchestrated their children’s relationships. In the time of Romeo and Juliet the children do not have much freedom. Because their parents choose almost everything for them. In the play “Romeo and Juliet” the two get very little or no freedom. In America children choose how they marry and who they spend time with. Family relationships are also very different. Time spent together as a family is more casual and relaxed. Romeo and Juliet relationships their families are opposite as they are today in America. It was formal and strict. Juliet’s father chose who she would marry and wanted her to marry Paris. Juliet went against her father and married Romeo. Romeo could choose who he wanted to marry. In America all children get to choose who they marry. “My child is yet a stranger in the world.She hath not seen the change of fourteen years.Let two more summers wither in their pride Ere we may think her ripe to be a bride.”(1.2.8-13) Lord Capulet says this when he is talking to Paris about Juliet's married to him he says that he want to wait two more summer before he wants her to marry. This quote shows that Juliet gets no say in her marriage with Paris even though she is already married to Romeo in secret Which is better?
