How Is Standardized Testing Effective

Standardized Testing: Is It Effective? Have you ever taken a standardized test, or have been surrounded by people who have? Was it a negative experience? 64% of the American population feel that schools put “too much of an emphasis” on standardized testing, with only about 14% of Americans believing that standardized testing is important (Walker). Standardized testing has many faults throughout the American school system, causing students to be negatively affected by them as a whole. Affecting the majority of students, standardized testing starts as early as kindergarten. These tests then continue until college, where then they are examined. You are then either labeled accepted into or denied from the college of your dream. Students all throughout the United States feel the stress of regulated testing during their whole educational career. Uniform testing not only affects the students, but the parents of these students, and the teachers preparing the students for these assessments. Although standardized testing is important throughout the American school system, it should not limit students in any shape or form.

Standardized testing has since expanded “to measure the performance of students in the classroom in order to help them succeed” (Lurie). Due to the No Child Left behind Act, state testing is administered to every student in the United States, which measures their abilities in basic subjects (Lurie.) Now once in college, standardized testing becomes more specific, as it is based on student’s majors.
