Although standardized testing can be a great thing in some ways, other factors must be considered before it is considered effective. Standardized test have many problems that make it ineffective. All of these problems are just way too much to make it worthwhile. For instance, every student is different when it comes to testing, it wastes time that could be spent actually learning, it causes stress, and it labels children. In order for these tests to be something of use, these problems would have to change. Standardized testing is unfair and ineffective. No student is exactly the same when it comes to learning or taking tests. The definition of a standardized test is, according to The Webster's Dictionary, “Any form of test that requires all test takers to answer the same questions, or a selection of questions from a common bank of questions in the same way..” The test is directed to students as a whole. Therefore, it is impossible for the test to be effective towards everyone since everyone learns differently. Valuable time is a valuable thing, especially since some people don't have the opportunity to have an education at all. Teachers, eventually, begin to focus more on drilling information about how to take the test instead of actually teaching them useful material. According to The Villanovan, “This time spent training to answer questions correctly could be better spent by learning valuable material needed for the future.” School is a place meant to prepare you for the higher levels of life, but it is not meant to drill test taking strategies in your head.
