Should Anne Frank’s Diary be taught in my grade level?
The Diary of a Young Girl has been read by many students and most teachers because of its good historical and educational value. It has been banned in lots of schools in the past due to its bad content and tragicness of the holocaust. In my English class there is a parent that thinks not only should her child not read this book but it should be banned from the entire grade level. From a teacher's perspective I believe that this book should not be banned and it should be taught to my grade level. In the book Anne talks about her experiences of what she and her family have suffered during the holocaust when they went into hiding. For example, during the holocaust when Anne first heard the bombings she was scared. On page 91 Anne stated, “the house rumbled and shook, and down came the bombs. I clasped my “escape bag” close to me, more because I wanted to have something to hold than with the idea of escaping, because there’s nowhere we can go.” This quote shows how Anne was scared of the bombings but also using the idea of escaping to calm her down. The book contains some powerful morals. According to The Avid Readers, “Anne teaches us to never give up.” They state that Anne teaches us to never give up because of how Anne always had faith in things going back to the way they were and surviving the holocaust during her time of hiding. According to The Avid Readers, “It makes us appreciate the little things.” They talk about how the book positively impacts the students by making them appreciate the little things. They also state that Anne tells us this because of how fast her teenage years were taken from her and she talks about happiness in nature during the bad times.
