How will attending the University of North Carolina at Wilmington allow me to grow as a person and as a student? By parting from my hometown to attend the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, I will be presented with new opportunities, become more independent all while investing in myself. Having more opportunities for my future is significant to me because I will have access to a greater amount of internship’s that will ultimately lead to job offers. Employers of all types from around the state, region and nation recruit at UNCW; this is why the job return rate for the University of North Carolina at Wilmington graduates is up to seventy-five percent. With a degree from UNCW, employers will know that I have been well educated. I furthermore hope to gain independence while attending UNCW. Gaining independence is imperative because it is vital to not always rely on others. Independence for me is not just about being able to do things on your own; it is about learning how to be resourceful and how to prioritize things such as class and work. I will not learn to be independent if I stay in my small hometown. While being independent is important to me, UNCW has a 17:1 faculty-student ratio; therefore I know if I need help in anything, I will always have someone to help me out. Above of all, I hope to find my home at UNCW. I have heard many people refer to UNCW as a “Goldilocks” university; I hope to find this true for me. After attending two different universities and not finding the feeling that I am seeking, I have confidence that I will that UNCW is where I am meant to be.
