Youth need more strong, and more influential leaders because they help with sports, life skills, and becoming better people in general. The Jefferson Award is an award given to people who help in the community and impact people’s lives. An individual worth noticing is Ryan Humpal, Ryan Humpal is an Amery High School science teacher and head football coach and has done this for about 14 years. Humpal doesn’t just go and coach, he puts together things for players to do by themselves to get better. The Jefferson Award should be given to Ryan Humpal because he loves to compete and has the drive to work hard at whatever he does, whether coaching or teaching.

In the article “11 Qualities that Every Good Coach Should Have”, Andy Ryland of USA Football, “Players draw competitive fire from their coaches, and coaches must have a competitive desire to draw out what they see in players. A coach’s job is to help players become their best, even when they can’t see it.” A connection between this quality and the Jefferson Award is that Ryan pushes his players to be able to compete and this also helps the athletes realize that they can work hard to make themselves better. Furthermore, during football season, Ryan Humpal would tell all the players from middle to high school to go to the weight room and make themselves better players so they could compete at the high school level. This demonstrates that coach Humpal will push his players to be able to compete against better teams or at the next level. In addition, Isaac Thayer said, “In our playoff game against Rosemount when we were down.” This shows how as a coach he can motivate his players to not give up and play until the last out. This is another reason why Ryan Humpal should get this award he teaches his players not to give up on anything until it is truly done and over
