¨Antisocial behavior is learned and sustained by this positive and negative reinforcement (e.g., social attention, avoidance) children receive from social agents parents in particular¨ (Dumas, 1996,p.172) This quote is from Jane E Dumas and it brings me to my topic. When I am older I want to go to college to be a child therapist. A child therapist is a person who talks through mental health and provides therapy for children. They evaluate cognitive and behavioral issues in adolescents. I have chosen this path for a few main reasons and would love to share them with you.

First, I know for a fact there is not enough help for kids currently and a lot of the people who work in the industry don't care nearly as much as they should. It's an industry that really needs to be filled with more people who really care for the children. The second reason is that I have a strong desire to make a positive difference in someone's life, and hopefully a lot of people's lives. The third reason is that the statistics for adolescents with mental health issues is higher now than it ever has been, and I want to help that number to go down. In this paper, I will help educate the reader about what exactly a child therapist is, the challenges therapists have to deal with, how to become one, and why it's important for more people who care to get into the field …show more content…

Child counselors/ therapists provide therapy, treatment, and guidance to the specific needs of children struggling with mental or emotional disorders, behavioral issues or learning disabilities.
