Upon reviewing the International Association of Chiefs of Police’s (IACP) code of ethics, there were parts that related to the role of crime fighter and public servant. The code of ethics stated that law enforcement’s duty was the protection of citizens safety and their property (International Association of Chiefs of Police [IACP], 2018). Additionally, police are to stop fraud, subjugation, coercion, and aggression all while respecting the rights of the offender and the public. Also, law enforcement must correct any errors quickly, shortcuts are unacceptable, protecting the public and due process is vital, and without continues, oversight law enforcement is inclined to abuse its power.
