The first reading of the first chapter of the book Pursuing Happiness, edited by Matthew Parfitt and Dawn Skorczewski introduces to different parts of the book of Psalms. I have done my research using different sources to understand more about this antique text. In the following paragraphs I will discuss the structure and the authorship of the five different sections of the book of Psalms. The book of Psalms is one of the largest book in the Bible, it is divided into five sections of divine songs, in over all, this book contains one hundred and fifty chapters.
In the short story "On the Rainy River" by Tim O'Brien, a young man named Tim needs to make a difficult decision: whether to go to war or flee to Canada to avoid the draft. Tim O'Brien explores the nature of motivation, particularly as it relates to difficult decisions and moral dilemmas. Motivation is a complex concept that many factors, such as personal values, social pressure, external rewards, power, and fear, can influence. Many factors make it difficult for him to decide, including shame, society's pressure, and his values. Tim’s goal in this short story is to decide based on his values, which can be difficult because one can lose self-respect when others don't agree with their beliefs.
The Three Methods to Success Many young ones today wonder about their upcoming future. What does it take to be successful? What does it take to make ones loved ones proud? According to the article “The Genius of Jobs” by Walter Isaacson and the article “The Secret to Raising Smart Kids” by Carol Dweck, people can obtain success in many different ways. Some people achieve success through being smart, while others gain success through applying the qualities of a genius, or having a growth mindset.
In The Breadwinner by Deborah Ellis, a central theme is Determination.. In her essay, “The Importance of Work,” from The Feminine Mystique published in 1963, Betty Friedan confronts American women’s search for identity. Throughout the novel, Betty Friedan breaks new ground, concocting the idea that women can discover personal fulfillment by straying away from their original roles. Friedan ponders on the idea that The Feminine Mystique is the cause for a vast majority of women during that time period to feel confined by their occupations around the house; therefore, restricting them from discovering who they are as women. Friedan’s novel is well known for creating a different kind of feminism and rousing various women across the nation.
“As he headed for the city on Route 3, he saw the smoke rising from downtown.” Ian Frazier gives a detailed account of the experience Salvatore Siano had on September 9th, 2001. I found the story very well written. I believe that the story gave readers a new prospective of all the people 9/11 touched and affected. Siano does not have an extraordinary story.
According to the case study article, Layman explained that job structure around job enrichment was directly coordinated with job satisfaction and motivation. While implementing job enrichment, other compounds of job structures such as job enlargement and job rotation were also included as motivational factors. Although, in theory, these three motivational actions were intended to improve employee’s work environment moral, HIS Department may have discovered another type of challenges emerging from these practices. For instance, employees at HIS Department viewed “these actions as adding to their stress rather than reducing it” (Layman, 2011). The textbook, Principles of Management also point to this drawback by stating “there is some evidence that job enrichment may sometimes cause employees to be dissatisfied…employees given additional autonomy and responsibility may expect greater levels of pay” (Principles of Management, 2005).
The search of identity is an issue familiar to contemporary society as well as to the society of 1963 when Betty Friedan published her feminist manifesto The Feminine Mystique. The main idea of Friedan 's article, "The Importance of Work," is the question of how individuals can recognize their full capacities and achieve identity. She argues that human identity is meaningful purposeful work, and individuals are not identified as women or men, just human based upon their work. Friedan believes work is what an individual does in his or her life; for example, snowboarding, songwriting, hockey, football etc. Friedan was an author, an activist, and the first president of the National Organization for Women.
As explained before hedonistic adaptations can affect how we appreciate and view the things we have. For example, people who have won the lottery may have been unhappy before winning and then expect to be happier after they won the lottery. It has been shown though that people are just as happy or unhappy as before they won the lottery. When relating to our relationships we may start to take the people around us for granted and think we deserve better or should look for better. When referring to careers there should be a certain level of desire to move up or develop, but be happy with the progress you have made.
Well this weekend kicked off with a great start. Starting with my basketball dominating at our game. I actually scored a basket for once and played good defense. It was a very frustrating game having people yell at me from all sides. Though in the end we played a great game even with a few bumps along the way.
As I was saying, you can choose whatever job you want to do. It's better to like your job then to make lots of money. If you don't like your job, you might be stuck doing it for the rest of your life and then you are unhappy forever. With your job, you want to choose it so you do what you want to do and not necessarily what you're good at. If you fail, try again.
Student loan debt will be forgiven, as President Joseph Biden had stated. Authorities are considering their options carefully and contemplating the best course of action at this time. Student loans are loans that college students take out only to pay for their expenditures and textbooks. If they are canceled, the students won’t be required to pay back the whole amount they borrowed. Even if the government has the authority to erase loans, it ought to do the opposite and require students to pay the entire amount.
Did you know that people spend 75% of their adult waking time doing work-related activities? The book “Fish!” has showed me that since work is such a major part of our lives, on must love what they do. I realized that I need to choose to have fun in work for meaning and fulfillment in my life. The authors Stephen C. Lundin, Harry Paul, and John Christensen share a philosophy that has helped millions of people and organizations to change their attitude about work. The Fish!
The type of work you end up doing does affect your aspect on life in general. The more you find yourself loving your job, the more you 'll find yourself in a happy state of matter. As Rachel Becksted states, “Since we spend a majority of our life working, job satisfaction can be a large factor in our overall satisfaction and sense of well being.” For example, if you 're not happy with the type of career you have, that can lead to depression or stress. If you are pleased with your career, you 'll find yourself stress free and at peace with the way your life has turned out.
The issue with many of today’s youth is based off of what they were told be be true early on in their lives- that they can do anything if they’re passionate about it. Gina Barreca, author of “Trying to find your passion? Find a decent job instead”, elaborated on the topic of ambition, mainly on how ambition strongly differs from passion. Early in her article, Barreca states, “We too often tell the impressionable young that if they’re passionate enough about a topic or activity, they’ll be recognized, eventually, for their talents.” When children grow up being told that they can become anything they want, but never hear they they’ll have to work in order to develop into what they want, children grow up feeling entitled, with a poor work ethic.
