An effective computer training class will be provided for all staff at Lumberton Elementary School. Most teachers are not incorporating technology in their classroom. White boards and chalk boards are used to teach lessons instead of the Smart Board. Technology is advancing rapidly, therefore it is important for the teachers to be knowledgeable of the new technology. Smart Boards are flat screen monitors that are networked with the teacher’s classroom computer and the school’s internet. Lessons are displayed on the screen for students to participate. It is operated with the use of touch screen technology and remote “clickers” (Edutopia, 2008). Most teachers do not realize the benefits that come with the Smart Board. Teachers are more familiar with the white boards and are not aware of the Smart Board and how it operates. Smart Boards are a great tool to motivate students. This has become a challenge for some teachers especially the ones who have been teaching longer. The first objective is the teachers will demonstrate the use of technology (Smart Boards) to support instructional strategies. The second objective is that teachers will be able to explore, identify, and integrate technology enhanced activities. The final objective is teachers will embrace technology to enhance their own personal and professional productivity, decision-making, and effectiveness. Different ideas will be demonstrated on ways the Smart Board can be utilized in the classroom. The Smart Board can be used for note taking, brainstorming, games and different forms of media (PLM, 2014).
