In the five years as principal, her school met exceptional growth in the areas of reading and math. When asked how the school had progressed with her as principal, she said, “I created professional learning communities to focus on student learning and differentiated instruction.” After much success as a principal at Sunland Park, she was offered a principal position at Anthony Elementary. This committee was necessary as our schools have gone through rapid growth in a world that is constantly changing. I was asked to join as a student member of this committee, and jumped on board without hesitation, remembering all the good that the schools had done for me. As a student member of this committee, I worked with teachers and administration across the school district, parents of kids in the district, and community leaders in both Sartell and St. Stephen to come up with a common vision for the future of our schools and a blueprint to lead us there. As we met through the rest of that school year, we came up with the common goal of meeting the mission statement of the Sartell Schools, which is to “Inspire the entire community to develop well-rounded citizens capable of becoming successful and contributing members of society by providing outstanding instruction in a caring and
Teachers normally know what is best for their students.. Students know a lot more than you think they do. Kids probably know more than what their parents think they know, kids are exposed to a lot of different language in high school than normal. Teenagers have internet, cell phones, ipads, and a lot more than their parents did when they were young. Young people don’t realize how good their life is now days that they have.
A school based community would need to be form to help improve the school. The school based community will involve everyone in the decision making process. I would seek feedback from parents to see what they expect from the school. A discussion of how teachers and parents can contribute to the vision will also be added. The stakeholders will have to understand their roles in order for process to be successful.

Because of the diversity that exists among our student population, it is important to offer an education that meets those diverse needs. This includes fostering an appreciation for the unique qualities students bring to the school community. Through working collaboratively in the classroom, students grow both academically and emotionally as they achieve project goals. In order to meet student needs, teachers must be prepared with the latest in professional development strategies to differentiate instruction among all learners. This desire manifests itself in many ways, yet at its core is building relationships with students and teachers and then extending these relationships to families and the community. With students, I seek to be visible, greeting the students at the door and working to learn their names. When discipline is necessary, I believe that restorative correction is the best avenue to change behaviors while maintaining relationships. As teachers spend the most time with students during a typical school day, they are essential team members in improving educational outcomes and promoting an inclusive culture. I detail my strategies for working alongside teachers in the subsequent question; however, I strive to support them by creating a culture of trust, safety, training, and collaboration through professional learning communities.
A child’s education is affected by various elements such as gender, race, environment, economic factors, privilege, and more. These elements shape the outcome of a student’s educational experience and learning. They also determine what and how students will learn. In order to create an appropriate learning environment, there should be a sense of community. In other words, the common goal should be helping students succeed and reach their maximum potential.
They said teachers didn't seem to know much about their subjects and clearly weren't interested in learning more." (Gato 33). Someones' attitude toward a certain topic or a tasks, I believe has a lot to do with his/her mentor. If an instructor has no intrest in teaching their subjects why should the students feel like they need to do their best or at least try. I have so much respect for the teachers who actually put in the effort in making sure that every single one of their students is succeeding.
1. A description of how the PLC concept is employed at your school. Professional Learning Communities (PLC) takes careful planning and collaboration among all staff members. However, once the foundation is built the benefits will be very rewarding for all. The PLC employed at my school will consist of my staff, which is kindergarten through grade six.
Looking into Professional Learning Communities within Indigenous groups Indigenous populations face multiple challenges when develop their literacy practices. Most of the time the indigenous languages spoken by these population compete in an unfair arena with a powerful language. Some of the indigenous languages have not developed a writing tradition by their own, and some other are endanger languages which need revitalization practices that avoid the loss of a language spoken for a particular community.
