Leadership requires broad thinking and this work with Grand City University is helping me expand my thoughts. Buller (2015) wrote extensively about both implementing changes and the necessary consideration for the people involved in those changes. As we went through the second simulation, internal partnerships and mission motivated my decisions. Leaders must address stakeholder concerns if we plan to enter into this or any other form of partnership. University-corporate partnerships have an established history (Ryan & Heim, 1997), which will help us glean insight to make them work for our stakeholders.
Diversity can be defined as the variety of beliefs, interests, and experiences within groups of people. Redlands’ excellent ethnic diversity reveals statistics with less than half of white majority and more than half of minority students. As a Hispanic female, the word minority has traveled with me constantly. The fact that The University of Redlands encourages all minorities as well as the majority to pursue a future career captivates my attention. Truly, diversity has inspired me of to collaborate and compete with many different cultures and morals.
I believe that, I try to assume that every person is a decent human being with good intent. While we all probably know what bias is, we most likely haven’t taken the time to really tackle its consequences in the workplace and to look at ways to eradicate it. One of the challenges a lot of workplaces struggle with is how to recognize difference. Some workplaces want to act as though there are no differences, that everyone is the same.
