In the Non-Fiction by Jon Krakauer, Into The Wild, we are introduced to the eccentric mind of 24 year old Christopher Johnson McCandless. Chris came from a family who was financially stable. When he graduated from Emory University, Christopher Johnson McCandless took off without the awareness of his loved ones, gave all his savings to OXFAM, destroyed everything in his wallet, and reinvented a whole new life for himself. In my opinion, I think what McCandless did is something to be admired. He did so many things without the need of a companion or society in general.
I enjoyed reading this article because it was very informative about the program of intergenerational playgroup. Prior to this article I knew of IPP, but after reading about a research study and it is statistical evidence about how effective the program can be it is hard not to be interested. This article was a learning experience for me as a professional and as a person because I may not work with older adults right away after I graduate it gives me a good foundation. The population is growing older and older and you will come in contact with older adults sooner or later in life so it is important to have a wide variety of skills in that setting. All of the benefits that this particular program offers for older adults with and without dementia
One sweltering, stifling hot afternoon in July, I had the immense privilege of participating in Share-the-Lake Day as one of my first volunteer events being a member of the National Honor Society. Share-the-Lake Day is an annual sponsored event that offers nursing home inhabitants an outdoor lunch and a day out on the lake. I have always enjoyed spending time with elderly people because I find their wisdom and experience to be incredibly intriguing and fascinating. I loved listening to their stories of which they were extremely content to share. To see their eyes dance as they recounted a fond memory from their youth or witness their excitement when I mentioned various thoughts of mine that reminded them of a favorite family member or close
I would like to start with what was so shocking for me was that this was not my first encounter with the Laramie Project, it wasn’t my second or third either; I have read and analyzed scenes from this play, discussed it in two other classes, I had the honor to meet two members of the original cast that interviewed the town, and I still had to let some of the pain of these people words and lives wash over me through tears before I was able to start this analyzes. This play that Moisés Kaufman and members of the Tectonic Theater Project created was bold and dangerous and they knew this was something that had to be told, something that still rings true in a world and society that still has leaps and bounds to go before we can honor Matthew 's name and every other named and nameless person ignorantly and hatefully ripped from this earth for something they could not change about themselves, nor should they. I would like to analyze the fathers monologue before he tells Aaron Mckinney that Matthew would not have wanted him sentenced to death; even if that was exactly what he would have wanted to happen. More specifically the line “...he wore braces from the age thirteen until the day he died.” This line was so poignant for me because it really represented how young Matthew really was, and
This allows everyone’s self esteem and confidence to increase. 1.2: Care plans are important in regard to person centred values to ensure that all members of staff are aware of the needs of that resident, what works well and what doesn’t to ensure that that person receives the best care and support. None the less the center provided mostly good because of all of the information you can have to help you in life.
“We Are Grown Men Playing A Child’s Game” is a commentary article originally published in 1963 by Gilbert Rogin. The article depicts the career, attitude, and deeply humanitarian thoughts about social injustice of Bill Russell, one of the greatest basketball players that the NBA has ever known. Majorly, it focuses on Russell's feelings toward basketball’s worth compared to socially unjust struggles around him. Russell states that he is in not ungrateful for all that basketball has given him, however, that it was the least he could have done to contribute to the undermined Negro. Russell’s career and notable artistry in basketball are highlighted in the paragraphs following until the attention is entirely on Russell’s opinion of how basketball
The Sioux Indians were allied with many Native Americans during the civil war period. The Lakota tribes, which are apart of the total Sioux population, attacked the settlers and emigrants moving into the land forcing America to respond. America responded by sending an army to Lakota killing many women, men, and children. A series of short followed these attacks, which led the Sioux to flee west to their allies in Montana and the Dakota Territory. This action increased illegal settlement after the civil war, which led to another war shortly.
If I was to become an RA, I would like to build connections with both my residents and my fellow Resident Assistants by holding events and working to build a diverse, caring community. I think connection can have a big effect on the RA staff as connection leads to better teamwork and collaboration, meaning the RA staff would work together more cohesively and thus make the experience of the residents more enjoyable. Building connections with and between your residents can have a very positive effect, as not only will they have a support system in place, they will also have a safe place to find friends, learn about differences among people, and find their place within the Geneseo community. Connection, in my opinion, can significantly improve one's experience in the residence hall and the Geneseo community at
Becoming an occupational therapist is my passion and my long-term career goal. Since a young age I have been incredibly inspired and motivated to befriend and help disabled individuals. Having grown up with a disabled mother who benefited from the services of occupational therapy I had the opportunity to see first hand how the experience gave can give individuals like her fulfilling and productive lives. With both parents working as healthcare professionals, including my mother who is now an occupational therapist herself, I see every day how rewarding the field is. Through my life I have had unique personal, professional and educational experiences that have shaped me into a strong candidate for an advanced education in occupational therapy.

Child’s Play, written by Higuchi Ichiyo, is a short novel centred around the growth of children, particularly those associated with the pleasure quarters. The story takes place over a few days, nevertheless, we are given an idea on the backgrounds of the three main characters, Shōta, Midori, and Nobu, and watch them gradually lose their childlike innocence. Although not explicitly stated, the last three paragraphs suggest that all three protagonists have followed the footsteps of their parents and in Midori’s case, her older sister. This essay discusses the impending tragic future of children who are destined to take after the occupations of their family.
