Focus for PHE and Preventive Practice Based on the PHE tool used, it was identified that the patient is a longtime smoker and smokes 2-15 cigarettes per day. Although it is beyond standard practice in the CRU, this became the focus for this patient. Specific Actions Taken Due to the patient’s history of cancer, smoking cessation was discussed with the patient. Evidence-Based Nursing Interventions Nurses working in oncology are in a unique position to help patients quit smoking during a time when motivation is usually higher and patients are more willing to quit (Cooley, Sipples, Murphy, and Sarna, 2008). Addiction Incorporated tells the true story of the former research scientist to a major tobacco company, Victor DeNoble. In the film, Victor recounts of how he was hired by the major company to find a substitute for nicotine that would cause less heart attacks and strokes to smokers. He succeeds with the finding of a new substitute for nicotine; But while looking for the substitute, he concluded that cigarettes were addictive – Something that the major company had been denying to the public for years. Three things that stood out to me and that I found interesting in the film, was how the company was manipulating the cigarettes so that they would be more addictive, how they were marketing cigarettes to underage youth and how they were miss
In addition to being one of the most entertaining shows to binge in the background of daily life, The Office is considered to be one of the more quotable comedies the 2000s brought us. The show’s compilation of lovable and often stereotypical characters provided us with nine seasons worth of memorable tomfoolery, character development, and one-liners. But for the purpose of this paper we will be looking beyond the plethora of “Worlds Best Boss” mugs and “That’s what she said” jokes, and taking a cold, analytical look at The Office to determine what the show offers in regard to interpersonal communication. In the first episode we are introduced to the shows connotation of conflict as we observe Dwight Schrute demonstrating a competitive conflict style in his reaction to Jim Halpert’s solidifying Dwight’s personal belongings in a jello mold.
Chapter two in the textbook Reflect & Relate an Introduction to Interpersonal Communication by Steven McCornack talks all about what “self” is and how to achieve complete fulfillment for one’s self which is also known as self-actualization. The components of self, as described in the book are, “ . . . self-awareness, self-concept, and self-esteem” (McCornack 39). Self-awareness is the idea in which one can take a moment to move feelings, beliefs, and other external influences aside and just evaluate oneself in a holistic perspective that is not skewed by opinions of others, etc. Having the ability to actually think about who one is brings a lot of power and mental stability in such a way that allows for improvement.

Interpersonal communication has impacted me and my life in a lot of ways. Few of the many ways how it has impacted me and my life are, I learned a lot while just talking to people. Every other person I talk to makes me grow in their own way for example, I interact with my dad’s friends a lot and from them I learned a lot about the different approaches to life and how the success story of each person differs teaches me about the different paths I can walk on towards success. Very small of interactions with people can make a person’s day and it always works for me like for example, when I used to go to college the security guard over there used to always greet me as if he meant it and that small gesture made me feel as if there are people out
For this assignment I had the opportunity to interview my best friend, Stephanie, and her boyfriend of five years, Zack. Watching these two individuals reflect and analyze past conflicts was not only insightful for me, but in a way, it was an emotionally healing experience for the couple as they got a chance to connect and understand each other on a deeper level. For the past year, Stephanie and Zack have been having constant conflict due to the fact that moving to Knoxville has been a challenging adaptational experience for Stephanie but not for Zack. Stephanie’s goals and aspirations has always been to live in a big city because that would allow her to have more opportunities to grow her career. Stephanie wants to move as soon as possible

In medical school we were taught techniques for motivational interviewing to help people change their habits (like smoking). It was very informative because we not only learned a valuable skill we also identified how difficult it can be to motivate people. A motivational interview helps the patient identify his or her “unhealthy” behaviors and to decide from within themselves how to change those behaviors knowing that they have the support of their doctor. We were taught about the stages of readiness for change that include pre-contemplation, contemplation, action, maintenance and relapse. It is one thing to know about the different stages but they real skill comes from the relationship that is established between the patient and the doctor during the interview itself.
Understanding my high levels communication apprehension has helped me identify its underlying causes and the role it plays in my interpersonal conflicts. According to Cahn and Abigail (2014), communication apprehension is “the level of anxiety a person feels in response to interpersonal, group, or public communication situations.” As someone with generalized anxiety disorder, I have always been aware of the high levels of communication apprehension I experience. It was not until reading about it in the text and seeing it firsthand in my conflict records that I realized how it has affected my view of communication. Whether it’s a phone call for pizza delivery or a lunch date with my friends, the first emotion I feel is not of excitement or anticipation:
