Professional leadership requires that learned and experiential practices be integrated into a framework of application and execution. This paper represents critical thinking and reflection regarding leadership theory, cultural competency and organizational decision making as it applies to Interprofessional Education (IPE) and Community Practice (CP). The advantages of this style of collaborative health care delivery over the traditional compartmentalized organizational silos is addressed. The perspective of a consulting leader is employed to review multiple case studies and consider their framework for application in the professional healthcare setting.

Strategic decisions made by the U.S. regarding managing procurement and contracting processes are compared to the other countries represented in the case studies. The case studies are also evaluated in terms of transformational leadership and effective budget planning.
The final section presents final thoughts on the vision for educated students being one of tomorrow’s leaders in an IPE/CP world. It explores how future leaders can use IPE/CP as key priorities to support the identification and growth of professional competencies in those with health authority potential.
