Since its inception, animal testing has been a source of major controversy. Animal testing dates back to 500 B.C.,where it finds its origins in ancient Greece. For centuries, innocent animals have been used in testing laboratories for products and medicines and ultimately killed as a result. They are literally tested to death. Every year, over 110 million animals die in U.S. laboratories alone. Sadly, these animals are treated as nothing more than disposable lab equipment. It is both inhumane and unnecessary to end these animals' lives for the sake of unreliable experiments.
There are many ways that animals are used by scientists in testing. The article Animal Research, Right or Wrong?, states that "scientists inject animals with experimental drugs to see how effectively they treat AIDS, cancer, and hundreds of other diseases."The problem is that animals and humans differ biologically, so accurate results cannot be obtained. According to another source Animal, Experiments Are Wasteful and Unreliable, "95% percent of all drugs that pass animal tests fail in human trials because they are ineffective or dangerous towards humans." Animal experiments have only diverted time and money away from exploring better, more humane methods.

Scientists believe the use of painkillers interfere with the exactness of test results. Not only that, the test used by a majority of labs is called Lethal Dose 50. The reason it is called this is because 50% of animals will die, and the other 50% will be put down. The testing process used for dogs includes force feeding that can last up to six months.This means that they are bound to die painful deaths from either poisoning or a rupture in their intestines due to the excessive force feeding.
