Is lying okay? Lying is built into us as people, since the dawn of time us as humans have been lying all the time. We are built to lie, some reasons justified to protect others and others not so much. While we have so many people encouraging us not to lie, and reduce it, but many people still argue if lying is okay. Encouraging or normalizing lying is not the best option. In my opinion lying is totally wrong because it unnecessarily complicates your life, and you are being ingenuine to yourself and others. That's why people should not lie.

The thought that these things are okay and should be normalized is very toxic and can be worse for you than you think. Lying makes you ingenuine to yourself and others, while also damaging your human dignity. For instance, Sissela Bok says, “even worse, it harms the liar himself, by destroying his human dignity and making him more worthless even than a small thing”( Rejecting All Lies: Immanuel Kant). Liars put their own self image and dignity on the line when they are telling a lie. This can make people think you are ingenuine and will put your credibleness on the line as well. Which harms you more than it helps by telling the lie. Additionally, Sissela Bok also states, “A lie, even if it does not wrong any particular individual, always harms mankind individually”(Rejecting All lies: Immanuel Kant). Lying does not just affect the person they are telling the lie to, it affects everyone, once one person says its okay so does another person. Which makes it seem acceptable, which it isn't. Lying overall no matter how big or small can discredit the person telling it, but also make them less of a human by sacrificing their human dignity.
